Edina

2016-2017 Record: 20-7-1

A disappointing loss to a nine-win Wayzata team in the Section 6AA finals held the Hornets out of the state title hunt, but the hive is stocked again for a deep postseason run.

Five of the top six scorers return to the Hornet lineup, including Mr. Hockey frontrunner Sam Walker (24-28-52), a seventh-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Northern Michigan commit and junior forward Jett Jungels (21-22-43) offers serious speed up front, while senior forward Lewis Crosby (19-25-44) provides the power.

Junior forward Mason Nevers racked up 13 goals and 36 points in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League this fall, and former Edina youth standout Demetrios Koumontzis returns from a hiatus after playing at the Tier I level. Koumontzis totaled 16 goals and 49 points in just 21 Elite League games.

In addition to the undeniable offensive superiority, the Hornets return a pair of Division I commits on defense in junior Ben Brinkman and sophomore Jake Boltmann, both of whom have verbally committed to Minnesota. Junior defensemen Mike Vorlicky and Mason Reiners also played in the Elite League.

Minnesota commit and Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick Sam Walker will be the offensive workhorse for the Hornets.
