2016-2017 Record: 22-5-1

Had every piece from last season’s Section 2AA runner-up returned, the Fire could have cracked the top five.

Unfortunately, talented defensemen Peter Tabor and Ohio State commit James Marooney elected not to return, nor did former starting goaltender and Minnesota commit Jared Moe. That said, the cupboards aren’t entirely bare in Victoria.

Senior forward and Wisconsin commit Ben Almquist (22-35-57) returns from a preseason stint in the USHL, and Delano transfer Garrett Pinoniemi (13-9-22) provides depth. Pinoniemi is committed to St. Cloud State, as is ultra-physical defenseman Brady Ziemer (4-19-23).

Joining Ziemer as defenders who could log serious minutes this season for the Fire include 6-foot-2 junior Nik Charchenko and junior Minnehaha Academy transfer Michael Spinner. Spinner racked 24 assists and 26 points last season for the Redhawks.

St. Cloud State commit Brady Ziemer is one of the lone defensive holdovers from last season for the Fire.
