Sunday Recaps

Grand Rapids phenom Blake McLaughlin had 4G and 2A on his home ice for the Rangers.

Rangers Take out Hawks 6-1 on 4 second half Goals.

The Rangers dominated the first half with puck posession and shots and goal, but only had a 2-1 at the break. The first half had zero penalties and very little body contact from either team. That all changed a bit in the second half when 11 penalties were called including two Game Misconducts for "Roughing" and an ejection for Spearing. The Rangers won the game, Blake McLaughlin had a goal and an assist...his linemate Tyler Watkins added three assists. Jack Kubes had the lone goal for the Hawks on a pretty top shelf shot that beat Ranger standout Zach Stejskal on his glove side.

Wings and Hawks skate to a 5-5 tie.

In one of the more exciting games of the season, the Wings and Hawks both left the game saying what if? On two ocassions the Wings lead by two and could not hold the lead. And with the score tied at the end of regulation, Peter Tabor for the Hawks nearly completed a highlight reel end to end rush. In the first period, the Wings got the lone goal when Nate Bordson tipped in a point shot by White Bear's Joey Petronack out of mid air. The highlight of the period were the show stopping saves by Eastview's Ben Beattie. The pitcher's duel ended in the second half, nine goals were scored...the first two by the Hawks forty seconds apart. The first by Hayden Brickner and the next by Stephen Doll. Ray Christy would get his first BEL goal off of a deflection of a Nate Bordson shot to give the Wings a 3-2 lead. Summer teammate of Bordson Stephen Doll would answer a minute later to tie it for the Hawks. Then White Bear boys Max Jennrich and Joey Petronack scored a minute apart to give the Wings a 5-3. Petronack's a pretty slapper after returning from the penalty box. But the Hawks would answer with two of their own when Lucas McGregor would shelf a wrister through traffic to make it 5-4. And a minute later, Peter Tabor would make a sweet back door pass to his Edina teammate Max Borst who would tie it at 5. The last ten minutes had great scoring chances and equally good goaltending from Keegan Karki (Hawks) and Nick Konkel (Wings) to end the game at a 5-5 tie.

Wings win Wild Game over Rangers 9-5.

In a game pitting two of the top BEL teams, the Wings scored five goals in the ten minutes...two by Highland Central's Ray Christy. The teams would trade two goals in the second half and the Wings would add a late empty net goal to give them a big win and boost their record to an impressive 4-1-1.

Weekend Stars

'13 Wiz Wyatt Award Winner Jack Olsen was on all cylinders for the Leafs last weekend.

Ben Beattie, Wings (Eastview) - Allowed 2 goals facing over 40 shots in two halves for the Wings. Showed great athleticism in the nets all day Sunday.

Stephen Doll, Hawks (Edina) - Had two goals in the Hawks second game, has really started to show off his skill in the past three games for the Red and Black.

Luke LaMaster, Rangers (Duluth) - big defensman who seems to shine on both ends of the ice...especially when he has the puck. A dominant force for the Rangers.

Blake McLaughlin, Rangers (Grand Rapids) - had six points and made some several impressive plays with and without the puck.

Luke Mountain, Canadiens (Hill Murray) - Had four points for the Habs, has really started to show his presence in the offensive zone.

Jack Olsen, Leafs (Lakeville) - Moved to forward to bolster the Leafs attack, Olsen added a goal and two assists. An impressive hockey IQ and quick release, Olsen will be a threat up front for the Leafs in the second half of the season.
