The State's Best Converge on Bloomington

Tonka's Griffin Streeter will line up for the Mavericks this weekend.

Bloomington, Minnesota will be the place to be for PeeWee hockey this weekend. YHH will host over 150 of the state's best PeeWee/U12 players from all over Minnesota for a weekend of fast paced hockey and great competition.

There will be 85 boys sectioned into five evenly drafted teams and 68 girls divided into four teams. Players from the Twin Cities and all over the state including towns like Ely, Rochester, Princeton, and Moorhead will be in Bloomington to face other top players for four games of action.

YHH will be on hand to cover every game, several by live stream and several via stories on the site. At the completion of the event, YHH will choose a tourney MVP and an All Tournament Team for both boys and girls.

Boys Preview

Prior Lake's Carson Stokes will star for the Mavericks this weekend in the YHH PeeWee Challenge

All five teams have major star power including some great goal scorers, defensemen, and goalies.

Bulldogs: well balanced team with a good variety of players from all over Minnesota. St. Paul's Matthew Gleason is a sure fire star for the Dogs up front, along with Ethan Cumming from St. Cloud. On the blueline keep an eye out for Nolan Krenzen from Duluth and Mason Streeter from Blaine.

Gophers: the Gophers are lead by coaches kids Bobby Brink and Joe Simpson. Two great all around players who are likely to find the scoresheet for the Gophers. The Gophers will be strong in net with Parker Slotsve (Maple Grove) and Hudson Hodges (Moorhead) making them for a tough team to beat all weekend.

Huskies: probably the most athletic team of the field of five, the Huskies have three of the biggest kids on the ice in Mackie Zabinski (Minneapolis), Jake Ratzloff (Rosemount), and Mitchell Kohner (Rosemount). If this team can gel, they could win the entire event.

Irish: potentially the most entertaining team in the field, the Irish have some very talented players including Caden Triggs (Moorhead), Christian Miller (Coleraine), and Tyler Oakland (Maple Grove). Couple that talent with goalies Josh Davis (Woodbury) and Basil Kamsheh (Bloomington)...the Irish will be dangerous.

Mavericks:  the Mavs will be another very big and physical team. They have the most explosive player in the field, Griffin Streeter who is a threat every time he hits the ice. Other big men include a trio of Edina kids Jake Boltmann, Emmett Wurst, and Mark Overman. Goalies Carson Stokes (Prior Lake) and Ramsey Bell (Edina) will make the Mavs a tough team to beat.

Girls Preview

Bulldogs: The Dogs will be gritty up front (Lindsey Booth, Bridget McGuire, and Ashley Koehler) and have two great Goalies in Anna LaRose (North Wright County) and Clare Bergeron (Wayzata). This team is built to win games.

Gophers: loaded with top end talent with the likes of coaches kids Lauren Einan and CeCe Ziegler, the Gophers will be in every game they play. If their defense holds up, they will have a great shot at making the Championship on Sunday.

Huskies:  Probably the biggest and most physical team in the field, the Huskies have Mannon McMahon (Maple Grove) and Maiah Robert (Mounds View). Speedsters Kiera Ryan (St. Paul) and Julia Barger (Eagan) will make this one of the most dangerous teams in Bloomington.

Mavericks: loaded with several Edina players, coaches Doll and Jungels put a lot of their eggs into the Hornet's basket. Lily Delianedis from Edina will be a difference maker up front for the Mavs, as will coaches kid Sophia Doll on the blue line. A very talented group that could easily be in the championship come Sunday.

The Call: Mavericks could sweep PeeWee Challenge

Making a prediction on an All Star event is tricky, especially one you are organizing. Never shy to make a prediction, here is an expert's best guess.

Boys: all of the teams have some great fire power up front...the team with the most points in the end will likely have the best defensemen and goaltending. The Mavericks fit that bill best, but don't count out any of the teams this weekend to get hot and win the coveted "Champions" T-Shirt.

Girls: unlike the boys, the difference on the girls side will be who can find the hot hand up front. The girls division has several great goalies and defenders...the team with the top snipers will likely be wearing The Shirt on Sunday. YHH says that the Mavericks have the most firepower, but in a short four game tourney, anything can happen.

Full Tool Box

The following are those players that we've seen, are hard to miss and fans should put a star in their program to watch for this weekend. Lots of natural skill and a passion for the game.

Lily Delianedis, Edina (Mavericks)

Wyatt Kaiser, Andover (Huskies)

Owen Neuharth, Prior Lake (Gophers)

Brieja Parent, Forest Lake (Gophers)

Jack Reimann, Blaine (Bulldogs)

CeCe Ziegler, Highland (Gophers)

Who is That?

One of my favorite questions when at a rink is when someone asks, "Who is that kid?" As if to say they are impressed. The following are a few players that may be off the grid slightly, but will likely raise an eyebrow or two this weekend under the YHH spotlight.

Mackenzie Bourgerie, North Wright County (Gophers)

Jenna Hartung, Burnsville (Gophers)

Carter Johnson, Moorhead (Huskies)

Grace Johnson, Hopkins (Bulldogs)

Nolan Krenzen, Duluth (Bulldogs)

Luc Laylin, St. Michael (Gophers)
