Strong Goaltending and Defense lift Black Dogs to Title

Going into the final day, three of the five teams had hope for The Champions t-shirt and the pride of winning the tournament. The Huskies controlled their own destiny with a win over the Bulldogs. The Irish needed to win a by a lot and needed a Bulldogs loss versus the Gophers. And, the Bulldogs needed a win over the Gophers and some help from the Irish.

The first scenario happened, the Huskies won 2-0 over the Irish. Thus dashing the hopes of the Bulldogs who lost on Saturday versus the Huskies and the first tiebreaker for the two teams who finished 3-1 was head to head competition.

On Saturday, the Huskies got all of their points in their win over the Gophers from District 2 players (Rose, Strobel X2, and Tussey). On Sunday against the Irish, they got their scoring from 2002 Minnesota Blades kids. Gunnar Thoreson chipped in a loose puck on an assist from Wyatt Kaiser and a few minutes later Andover's Luke Kron scored on an assist from John Tucker and Owen Gallatin. The only thing missing from the score sheet was the Blades' Head Coach Greg Dornbach.

Jefferson's Basil Kamsheh completed the weekend for the Irish with four consecutive halves of shutout hockey.

In other news, the Bulldogs defeated the Gophers 5-1 and Matthew Gleason was held without a goal (2 assists). He finished the tournament with 8G/2A and was selected the Tournament MVP. Gleason showed amazing speed, balance and a knack for scoring when his team needed it the most.
