Battling for the puck in a U10A game at Anoka

For most kids, their first real experience with hockey in Minnesota comes with the first tourney they attend.  For girls playing hockey, the Anoka Classic Girls Tournament is one of the first tourney’s they will play in as part of Minnesota girls hockey.  For the players, there was exuberance at this year’s Anoka tourney as teams did their warmup drills.  For their younger brother and sisters, there was the Zamboni as some stood and just watched the ice being cleaned.

Last weekend, thirty two U12 and U10 teams played in four tournaments crowning four champions, U10A, U10B, U12A, and U12B.  Teams from 21 Minnesota Hockey Associations participated.  Minnesota districts 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, and 10 had teams entered.  Rogers won the U10A tourney and Stillwater Red won the U10B tourney.   In U12 tourneys, the U12A tourney was won by Eagan and the U12B tourney was won by Wayzata Navy.  Eagan 12A is currently leading District 8 U12A league; Rogers is leading District 10’s U10A league.  Stillwater Red plays in District 2’s U10B league and Wayzata Navy plays in District 3’s U12B league.
