Alexandria completed an undefeated run through pool and bracket play in the Lumberjack Cup Peewee A tournament to claim the title with a 6-4 win over Cottage Grove Sunday evening at the Stillwater Recreation Center.

The Cardinals were led by forward Caleb Strong, who scored three goals in the game.

Alexandria exploded for four goals in the third period, including a goal from Joe Westlund to take a 5-3 lead at the 7:32 mark of the third period. Cottage Grove’s Owen Quast scored to pull the Wolfpack within one at 5-4, but Strong polished off his hat trick with an empty net goal to ice the game.

The Cardinals were led by Caleb Strong, who scored three goals in the game. Spencer Olsen had two assists for the Cardinals.

While Strong was the offensive star, goaltender Robert Bymers was certainly the anchor of the defense. Bymers, normally a member of the Alexandria PWB White team, backstopped the Cardinals to a perfect 5-0 tournament record. Regular PWA goalie, Landyn James, was sidelined with a broken foot, sustained before the tournament.

Carter Newpower scored two goals for the Wolfpack in the loss.
