Janicke last Summer at USA Hockey National Camp
On Saturday, Maple Grove High School Freshman Trevor Janicke gave a verbal commitment to Head Coach Jeff Jackson to play his college hockey at Notre Dame. Janicke is the first Minnesota 2019 player to give his commitment to play Division 1 Hockey.
This Spring and Summer Janicke vaulted onto the scene with great performances at the Spring HP Festival in Plymouth, the June HP Camp in St. Cloud and at the July USA Hockey Development camp in New York. At the national camp in New York, he had four goals and two assists playing against the top 2000 birth year players in the country. The 2019 YHH NOW Prospect was always considered a great player in the local Minnesota class of '19, but he really made his mark playing against players on the national stage.
A 2013 Wiz Wyatt Player of the Year Finalist playing PeeWees for Osseo Maple Grove, he lead his team to state the last two years as a PeeWee (Thief River Falls) and Bantam (Duluth). Janicke is the son of Curtis Janicke who also played college hockey for the Irish from 1990 to 1993.

YHH asked the Maple Grove Freshman Saturday why it was so easy for him to select Notre Dame to play college hockey. He candidly replied, "You mean besides the fact that I knew the Notre Dame Fight Song by the time I was 2?" He continued, (more seriously) "a lot of things - certainly the campus, the arena, and the tradition at ND, but mostly the combination of academic and athletic excellence. Also, there is something about Notre Dame that I can’t really put into words. Whenever I’ve been on that campus, it just feels like a special place."

After he committed Saturday, we asked Janicke what it was like to play for the same college team as his dad. "Incredible. It’s an unbelievable feeling to know that I will put on the same jersey as my Dad and follow in his footsteps."
When asked after his commitment in South Bend if he was considering any other schools or offers, Janicke said, "he always dreamed of playing for Notre Dame and Minnesota. But, Notre Dame just feels like the right place for me."
He later went on to say how much he appreciated his Mom (Amy) and Dad for their support and had a special thanks to his Bantam AA coach Tom Adolph at Osseo Maple Grove. He said Adolph, "taught (him) a lot of things about the game both on and off the ice to help him get better."
Janicke also told YHH that he plans to play varsity hockey this Winter for the Crimson versus returning to Bantams. Good luck to Trevor this season.
