Elk River and Grand Rapids renewed their rivalry Saturday night
Saturday was a great day for hockey in Edina. While it poured rain all day outside, the some very good hockey was played inside. Here is a recap of the pools, some players to watch and a few notes on key players missing in action.
Pool 1: Delano knocks off Lakeville South to grab the pool bid to Sunday. An impressive team that looks to get over the hump for their first state berth in school history.
Pool 2: Wayzata gets last minute goal from Colin Schmidt to earn the necessary tie to advance out of toughest of the five pools. The best game of the day between two very good teams.
Pool 3: EP beats opponents 22 to five in three pool play games. Powered by likely Mr. Hockey Casey Mittelstadt, the Eagles look very good.
Pool 4: Grand Rapids swept their pool with a couple nice wins over the weekend beating section rival Elk River Saturday and section 2 power Prior Lake Friday late Friday night.
Pool 5: We heard through the grapevine Orono advanced from the St. Louis Park pool...they will face Grand Rapids Sunday morning.
Sunday Match-ups
Grand Rapids v. Orono (winner plays Eden Prairie) 9:00 am
Wayzata v. Delano - 9:15 am
Grand Rapids/Orono Winner v. Eden Prairie
Prediction: If full teams arrive Sunday, Eden Prairie wins. Eagles are most complete team in the field. With HS Elite League tryouts, baseball, etc...predictions are iffy at best. The thought of Rapids/EP or EP/Wayzata sounds like fun no matter the day on the calendar of temperature outside.

Hunter Johannes, Eden Prairie
Hunter Johannes, Eden Prairie - Tough power forward who adds another dimension for the Eagles offensively.
Micah Miller, Grand Rapids - the human penalty killer is a treat to watch - plays a 200 foot game. Doesn't engage in any funny stuff, is all business for the Hawks.
Jax Murray, Elk River - has a lot of tools, the most noticeable is his speed and balance. Has Mr. Hockey finalist written all over his game.
Patrick Reddan, Holy Family - another speedster who has always impressed YHH. Has great hockey sense and a lot of sandpaper to his game.
Colin Schmidt, Wayzata - known for his powerful shot and fearless play in the corners, Schmidt sees the ice well and has scored clutch goals this weekend.
