Gopher Commit Sammy Walker will skate for Southwest again this Fall in the Elite League
The Upper Midwest High School Elite League will kick off with games over the Sept. 10 and 11 weekend, but the team rosters have been announced in advance.
There are seven primary Minnesota teams this season, with Team CCM joining the traditional six teams of North, Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast and Great Plains.
Team Wisconsin, Shattuck-St. Mary's, and the National Team Development Program's Under-17 team will also make appearances.
14 sophomores dot the six rosters, pointing towards a youth movement in the Elite League that bodes well for the future of the league.
Leading the way with eight players is Hermantown, followed by Edina, Duluth East, Holy Family Catholic, Eden Prairie and Lakeville South. All of those schools have six players each in the league.
For full rosters, see below.
Young Guns - On announcement day, there were a record 14 sophomores chosen to the league. Headlined by Gopher commit Ben Brinkman and several others with division one pedigrees, the league may be younger this year, but it might be more talented.
Hermantown Hustle - defending state champ Hermantown nets eight players in the league including senior goalie Cade McEwen.
Grand Rapids times two - Both returning goalies for the Thunderhawks Gabe Holum (Great Plains) and Zach Stejskal (North) are in.
Scoring Scott - YHH high school player of the year finalist Scott Perunovich appeared on the North roster Friday suggesting the senior may return to Hibbing for his senior year.
Team CCM hits the spot - there will be team CCM again this year - how many games they will play remains a mystery. Regardless of their status, 20 more players will get a shot at some high level games.
Headed to Juniors - noticeably absent from the rosters were Hill Murray's Marko Reifenberger (Bloomington/USHL) and Dylan Mills (MN Wilderness/NAHL), Clay Phillips (Edina/Fargo USHL) and Casey Mittelstadt (Eden Prairie)/Green Bay USHL) - the first two appear to be full time and not returning. The second two appear to be playing before and after with their USHL
