2016 White Bracket Champs: White Bear Lake
After losing 9-1 to Lakeville North Friday, White Bear Lake swept the White Bracket winning three straight including a 4-1 win over Bloomington Jefferson Sunday. After the Jags tied it 1-1 late in the second period, Aiden Welch took a rebound and flushed it to give the Bears a lead they would never relinquish.
Tyler Bishop added an insurance goal in the third period for the Bears, scoring on Luke Swanson who made some incredible saves for Jefferson all morning.
Orange Bracket Champs: Eden Prairie
Eden Prairie won the Orange bracket title beating Wayzata 5-4 Sunday in Moorhead. After trailing 3-1, EP's Quinn Schliesman scored his second goal of the game on a deflection in front of the net to cut the Trojan lead to 3-2 heading into the final period.
EP came out of the locker room with a lot to prove. Wyatt Smith tied the game on a rebound to tie the game and a few minutes later Jackson Blake scored to give the Eagles the lead for good. Trent Stansberry added a highlight reel goal to complete a three goal in six minute barrage.
Big Pumpkin Champs: Osseo Maple Grove
Entering the third straight Edina/OMG Big Pumpkin title game it was very clear that these two associations have assembled an infrastructure for winning. OMG dismantled its three opponents by a combined 22-2 and Edina found a way to beat the best team in the north (Hermantown) and the east side of the metro (Woodbury) in a shootout.
At the end of the first, OMG got a big goal from one of their many big guns William Matzke who rifled a shot past Bryce Hess to give the Leafbirds a lead they would never release. With the score close, the next goal for both teams was crucial - Maple Grove got it when Sawyer Skanson beat Hess on a power move to his left. A goal that kicked off a three goal streak for the Leafbirds in five minutes to give them a 4-0 lead after two periods.
The Hornets had a little fight left in the third mounting nine shots on OMG goalie Alec Juenke, but he stopped them all to earn the shutout.
