The 2016-17 Colorado Cup Championships

#8 Ryan King buries the backhanded game winner with just over four minutes remaining to give the host Colorado Springs Tigers the Colorado Cup PeeWee A Championship victory 5-4 over Littleton PeeWee Black.

Littleton takes Squirt A Championship

Noah Stull (3A) and Ben Rakowski (2A) were setting up goal scorers left and right, combining for five helpers on three goals to lead the Littleton Hawks to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Colorado Springs Tigers in the 2016-17 Colorado Cup Squirt A Championship. Littleton's Ben Rakowski (5G,5A) was the leading point scorer in the Squirt A division.

#7 Kail Burns (far right) scores on a beautiful pass from #5 Ben Rakowski to seal the Colorado Cup Squirt A Championship for the Littleton Hawks.

Glenwood Grizzlies claw to Bantam A title

The Glenwood Springs Gizzlies Bantam A got a first period goal from Dane Whiston (2G) and followed that up with a four goal second period to lead them to a 7-1 victory over the DYHL Arizona Junior Sun Devils in the championship game of the 2016-17 Colorado Cup.  Owen Mangeot (2A) and Sean Mooney (3A) handed out the assists and goalie Daelan Renzi had 20 saves, as six different players netted goals for the Grizzlies.  Glenwood's Hunter Lohse (4G, 3A) and Kobe Ottosen (6G, 1A) led all Bantam A scorers in points with seven.

Arizona's Knights slay the Tigers

The Arizona Hockey Union Knights brought in the new year by winning the 2016-17 Colorado Cup PeeWee B Championship with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Colorado Springs Tigers.  Jackson Binazeski (3G) lit the lamp twice in the first period on his way to the hatty and Colin Leeds (1G, 1A) would put the finishing touches on the Knights triumph.  Arizona's Captain Jenna Majewski (6G, 10A) led all PeeWee B scorers in points and was tied for third most points in the entire Colorado Cup tournament.

Hawks net Squirt B title over Knights

The Littleton Hawks Squirt B scored the first three goals of the game to give them a lead that would be too much for the Arizona Knights to overcome.  Arizona's Josh Crowley would score at the end of the second period to bring them within 3-1, however, Littleton's Connor Wagner's (1G, 1A) power play goal and Johnny Crawford's (2G, 2A) two goals would prove to be the difference as the Hawks went on to a 5-1 Colorado Cup Squirt B Championship victory.  Littleton's Johnny Crawford (7G, 2A) led the Squirt B division in points with nine.

Eagles soar over Evolution for Tier II Bantam AA title

The Utah Golden Eagles Tier II Bantam AA jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two periods, and they would not look back as they were able to hold off Evolution for a 4-2 victory in the 2016-17 Colorado Cup Championship game.  Jace Gamble (2G) brought the Evolution within a couple of goals twice, but it was Utah's Tyler Phillips (2A) that would find Dax Purser (2G) late in the third and goaltender Porter Johnson made 24 saves to seal the win for the Golden Eagles.  Dax Purser (8G, 5A) would lead all Tier II Colorado Cup players in points with 13.

#89 Dax Purser knows where Grandma keeps the cookies, as he goes top shelf to give his Utah Golden Eagles a 4-1 lead late.

Host Colorado Springs Tigers roar past Littleton

In what I believe was the best game of the 2016-17 Colorado Cup, the host Colorado Springs Tigers PeeWee A and the Littleton Hawks PeeWee A Black played one of the most entertaining games of the weekend.  The PeeWee A Championship was a see-saw battle that had five lead changes and four ties, until Ryan King (2G) buried the game winner with just over four minutes remaining to give the Tigers the Championship victory.

Ben Schriefer (1G, 1A) and Benjamin Ballantine (1G, 1A) provided an early spark for the Hawks, but the Tigers would answer back with two goals in 1:23 to take a 3-2 lead after the first period.  Just after Littleton took the lead back at 4-3 to start the third, Colorado Springs' Jake Geronazzo (1G, 1A) would again swing the momentum the Tigers' way by scoring to tie it at 4-4, setting up the Championship clinching goal by King.

Greeley Bears cruise to Squirt C Championship

The Greeley Bears Squirt B Gold scored the first three goals of the game, including two in the first minute, to help guide them to the 2016-17 Colorado Cup Squirt C Championship.  Littleton's Jeremy Barnard scored to close the gap to 3-1 just moments before the end of the first, but Greeley would score the last four goals of the game to pull away to the 7-1 victory.  Blake Chapman (2G, 1A) and Eian Swaro (1G, 1A) each had multi-point games to lead the Bears to the win.  Greeley's Blake Chapman (14G, 2A) also led all Squirt C players in points and was tied for third most of any division in the entire Colorado Cup with 16 points.

#36 Blake Chapman scores his second goal of the game to give his Greeley Bears a 4-1 lead in the Colorado Cup Squirt C Championship game.

Hyland Hills Jags holds off Colorado Springs

The Hyland Hills Jaguars Tier II Minor AA 1 were able to ride a huge performance from Justus Aragon (2G) to lead them to the 2016-17 Colorado Cup Tier II Minor AA Championship at World Arena.  Colorado Springs would get a late second period goal from Adam Alldredge to tie it up at 1-1, but Aragon would answer back scoring his second goal just 1:12 later to put Hyland Hills up for good.  Jags' goaltender Breyton Laskey had 21 saves in net, as Hyland Hills would add an empty-netter to win it 3-1.

The Hyland Hills Jags are the 2016-17 Colorado Cup Tier II Minor AA Champions with a hard fought 3-1 win over host Colorado Springs Tigers.

Littleton Hawks glide past the Stars

The Littleton Hawks Bantam B Black scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead late into the third period, but had to fight off a furious rally by the Lincoln Junior Stars to win the 2016-17 Colorado Cup Bantam B Championship.  The Hawks got goals from Jaxson Brandhorst in the first, Mitchell Dow in the second, and Jackson Moreci in the third to gain what seemed like the distinct advantage.  However, Lincoln would fight back late with scores from Stephen Jones and Caleb Watson in the last two minutes to make it interesting.  Littleton goaltender Nicholas Novodvorskiy would shut the door from there, making 20 saves and holding on for the 3-2 win.  Littleton was able to overcome a Lincoln Stars team who had the top two points scorers in the entire Colorado Cup tournament in Evan Christensen (16G, 9A, 25 Pts.) and Jared Topil (11G, 9A, 20 Pts.).
