On Sunday this past weekend, a trio of Edina teams blew into Duluth for the St. Luke’s Icebreaker Invitational tournament, running roughshod over their opponents en route to title game appearances in the 10UA, the 12UA and the 15UA Gold Divisions.
The 15UA Hornets emerged with a 2-1 win over Andover, with Tella Jungels scoring the game-winning goal in the third period, breaking a 1-1 deadlock that had lasted the entire second period.
Vivian Jungels scored the tying goal for the Hornets, knotting the game at 1-1 after Andover’s Peyton Hemp put the Huskies up 1-0 just 35 seconds into the game.
At the 12UA level, the Hornets came up short, again to the Huskies of Andover.
The Huskies scored twice in the first period, and then once more in the second and third to cruise past the Hornets with a 4-0 victory.
Emma Tammi, Halle Fields, Madison Kaiser and Bailey Schoen all tallied single goals in the win for the Huskies.
Minnetonka would have the last laugh in the 10UA level, defeating Edina Green 5-1 and keeping the Hornets from sweeping the Icebreaker podium.
