Minnesota commit Blake McLaughlin of Grand Rapids makes a serious case to be in the Mr. Hockey discussion.
Each spring since 1985, the Mr. Hockey Award is bestowed upon one senior player as the best in his class, selected by a panel of NHL scouts, junior scouts and coaches and coaches in the collegiate ranks.
With Casey Mittelstadt's return to the Eden Prairie lineup for the 2016-2017 season, last year's award appeared sewn from the start, albeit without a late charge from Grand Rapids senior Micah Miller after Miller's spectacular performance down the stretch of the regular season and throughout the postseason.
This season, the field seems more wide open than it has been in at least three years, with numerous players from all over the state in the early discussion.
