Planting a Big Pumpkin in Hermantown

The Hawks flew high Sunday

Number one rated Hermantown entered the Big Pumpkin as this writer's favorite to win. With a target on their chest, the Hawks answered the bell in all four games, winning their first Big Pumpkin title in three tries. Wyatt Carlson had two goals to pace the Hawks to an early lead, but the Predators would battle back and get two late goals from Ty Henricks and Jake Fisher in the second period to make the third period a track meet that found no goals scored but plenty of excitement.

Credit to both goalies, Jack Hodgins of Woodbury and Garron Opsahl of Hermantown, who both made some remarkable saves the entire game and especially in the third period.

Max and Zam Plante were chosen Co-MVPs of the Pumpkin for their relentless play on both ends of the ice. The Hermantown victory is the second big YHH trophy that the Hawks have skated away within the last year, also winning the YHH Squirtacular in January, proving that the future is very bright for Hermantown hockey.

Spuds keep Tigers honest, win Orange 4-2

Abe Carslon scores one of his three goals Sunday for Moorhead in their Orange Bracket championship win

Abe Carlson had three goals for Moorhead as they outlasted Farmington 4-2 Sunday to grab the Orange Bracket championship of the Big Pumpkin. Carlson plays an aggressive style using his good balance and his big body to his advantage on all three tallies. The first was a greasy goal in front on rebound, the second on a pretty pass from Joe Kortan and the last an empty net goal where he willed the puck in the net after two great hustle plays up the ice.

Farmington got a pair of goals from Tyler Lafferty and was a bounce away from tying it late in the game. Gavin Olson, Farmington's goalie stopped 40 shots in the loss.

After falling to Stillwater Friday, the Spuds rattled off three nice wins, going 4-1 to start the season. The 2017-2018 campaign has a lot of promise for the host team.

2017 White Bracket Champs - Fargo Blue

Kade Beyer scored the game-winning goal for Fargo Blue in overtime to lift the Freeze to the White Bracket championship Sunday in Moorhead. The Freeze tied the score late in the third period on a powerplay goal by Max Watson.

Rochester was led by their top line of T.J. Gibson, Mason Leimbek and Payton Kor. Gibson had two pretty goals both set up by Kor and Leimbek had one of the best goals of the event when he scored early in the first after beating three Freeze defenders and their goalie before scoring from his stomach....#SCTop10.

Blue was lead by Watson who had two goals and an assist in the win.
