Teams Force Way Into Semifinals

As the sun sets on a Saturday during any given tournament, semifinal matchups begin to take shape as teams separate themselves from the pack.

In the PWAA division, Osseo-Maple Grove and Stillwater cemented the top seeds, as the Leafbirds scored wins over St. Michael-Albertville and Woodbury on Saturday. The win over the Predators came in arguably the most highly-anticipated matchup of the day, with the Leafbirds parlaying the momentum of an early 2-0 lead into a 5-2 win.

Chaska-Chanhassen will meet the Leafbirds on Sunday, earning a spot in the semifinals after a 7-5 win over pool rival Rosemount. Stillwater takes the top seed in Pool A after posting a 2-0-1 record during pool play. The Ponies tied Rosemount 5-5 and thumped New Jersey 9-3 to secure their pool's top seed.

Armed with eight players, Luverne will take on Osseo-Maple Grove in the first PWA semifinal on Sunday, while Woodbury and Stillwater face off in the second semifinal of the day in the PWA division.

Luverne outscored its opponents 17-3 on Saturday, easing to a 10-3 win over New Mexico and a 7-1 triumph over Rosemount. Osseo-Maple Grove also scored 17 goals in two games to earn a spot in the semifinals, downing Little Falls 12-1 and Woodbury 5-1.

Woodbury cruised past Centennial 5-1 before falling to OM G 5-1 in the afternoon, while Stillwater shut out Rosemount 6-0 and defeated New Mexico 8-1.
