Day One Features Few Surprises

After one day of competition, the Founders Cup quarterfinal round has generally taken the path generally expected.

Seven of the eight second-round games were won by the higher-seeded teams, with the lone exception being Minnetonka, as the Skippers edged defending champion Lakeville South 7-5. The Skippers earned the right to play the Cougars after defeating Luverne handily earlier in the day by a score of 8-1. Leading the way in the two victories was Haden Henke for Minnetonka, who totaled three goals and six points for the Skippers.

Stillwater eased past Lakeville North thanks to a four-goal performance by Ty Tuccitto, and Mahtomedi downed Chaska/Chanhassen "A" 8-2 as Jack Sweeney recorded a hat-trick and David Wolsfeld scored a goal and dished out three assists. The Ponies and Zephyrs will meet in the quarterfinals.

Rogers and Minnetonka will square off in the second quarterfinal, as Rogers skated to a 7-2 win over Alexandria, and Minnetonka slipped past Lakeville South in the aforementioned 7-5 thriller. Chase Cheslock and Trent Peluf each scored twice for Rogers in its win.

Woodbury took a sluggish 4-2 win over Eastview in its second-round matchup, while the Predators' quarterfinal opponent, Farmington, handed St. Michael-Albertville a 6-4 loss. Jake Fisher scored twice to lead Woodbury to its win, while Zander Billins picked up two goals and an assist to lead the Tigers to theirs.

A five-point night from Tristen May-Robinson propelled Andover to a 7-2 win over Osseo-Maple Grove "A", as the defender scored once and assisted on four others for the Huskies.
