Class AA Rankings

Courtney Stagman has not allowed a goal through two games for No. 1-2A Andover.

1. Andover (2-0)

The Huskies made their plans for the season clear in their two opening games, hammering No. 10-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s 7-0 and blanking No. 4-2A Edina 3-0 over the weekend. Half of the team’s roster has already recorded a point, with Courtney Little (1 goal, four assists, 5 points) and St. Thomas commit Ella Boerger (3-1-4) leading the way.

2. Minnetonka (1-0)

A 3-0 win over Elk River/Zimmerman kicks off the season for Minnetonka, as the Skippers pumped 50 shots on the Elks’ junior netminder Addi Brant during the victory. Lauren Goldsworthy, Grace Sadura, and Ellie Zakrajsheck each scored in the win over the Elks.

3. Gentry Academy (1-0)

The Stars thumped a quality Blake team 6-2 in their opener.

There is no box score on the Minnesota Girls Hockey Hub.

4. Edina (0-1)

The Hornets lost to top-ranked Andover 3-0 over the weekend.

However, it’s possible Andover could shut out everyone this season, so the Hornets will remain at No. 4 this week.

5. Maple Grove (1-0)

Maple Grove topped Class AA, Section 5 rival Centennial/Spring Lake Park 2-0 to kick off the season. The Crimson followed a formula that shield permeate the rest of the season - two goals from Penn State commit Stella Retrum, and a 24-save shutout for St. Thomas commit Dani Strom.

6. Hill-Murray (1-0)

Like Maple Grove, the Pioneers picked up a critical section win early in the season, shutting out Stillwater 3-0 behind a three-goal explosion in the third period, which included two empty-net goals. Shae Stinnett, Chloe Boreen, and Jessica Dochniak scored one goal apiece in the win.

7. Stillwater (1-1)

The second of the top-10 teams to suffer a loss over the weekend, the Ponies took eight penalties in their 3-0 loss against Hill-Murray. A 7-1 win over Forest Lake to start the year on Thursday is nice, but the Ponies must avoid the penalty box if they hope to contend against Section 4-2A rivals Hill-Murray and Gentry Academy.

8. Rogers (0-0)

The Royals did not play over the weekend. They will open the season against fifth-ranked Maple Grove on Thursday, Nov. 17th.

9. Moorhead (1-0)

The Spuds move ahead of Benilde-St. Margaret’s after a 4-2 win against a quality Lakeville North squad on Saturday. The Spuds scored three times in the third period to put away the Panthers, killing all six Lakeville North power plays in the process.

10. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (0-1)

Kudos to the Red Knights for stacking their non-conference schedule, including hosting the defending state champions for their opener. The game went about as expected, but the fact that the Red Knights only put seven shots on the Andover net is cause for concern for a team of their aspirations.

Moorhead's Ella Holm tallied a goal and an assist in the Spuds' 4-2 win over Lakeville North.

Class A Rankings

Kaiya Sandy scored the game-winning goal for Warroad in the Warriors' victory over Proctor/Hermantown.

1. Warroad (2-0)

An 8-2 win ever Duluth Marshall, which could be a top-four seed in Section 7-1A, was followed by a game that Class A fans will refer to for the rest of the season.

The Warriors topped No. 2-1A Proctor/Hermantown 3-2 in overtime on Kaiya Sandy’s game-winner, with the Warriors outshooting the Mirage 48-19. The teams will play again two days after Christmas, but one can only hope they’ll meet again…perhaps at the Xcel Energy Center.

2. Proctor/Hermantown (2-0)

The Mirage started the season with a 6-0 win over the new Roseville/Mahtomedi co-op, then followed that performance with the aforementioned thriller against Warroad.

Despite being outshot by the Warriors by such a large margin, there are virtually zero teams - in either class - that could take this Warroad squad to a fourth period.

3. Orono (1-0-1)

The Spartans blanked Chaska/Chanhassen 7-0, the tied with Simley 2-2 over the weekend.

The tie with the (other) Spartans isn’t exactly cause for concern, considering how good Simley was last season, but you’d like to see the expectedly dominant teams be dominant.

Zoe Lopez, Alexa Niccum, Alex Paulsen, and Grace Bickett have combined for eight goals and 18 points through two games this season.

4. Holy Angels (0-0)

The Stars have yet to play. They will take on the Armstrong/Cooper on Wednesday, Nov. 16th.

5. Crookston (1-0)

Five players marked the scoresheet for the Pirates in their season-opening win over Thief River Falls, and new goaltending Kambelle Freije stopped nine of ten shots in the win.

The game wasn’t a particular challenge for Crookston, and the Pirates may have to wait until Nov. 26 for a real test when they take on Northfield.

Zoe Lopez leads No. 3-1A Orono with four goals through two games this season.
