Warroad at Bemidji (Nov. 29, 7:15 PM)

Abby Chamernick, Warroad

Two undefeated teams, both clubs are 5-0 to start the season. Which one will stay undefeated after this tilt?

No. 1-1A Warroad has been playing like a well-oiled machine as they rolled to a 9-0 victory over a decent Simley squad on Saturday.

Rylee Bartz (13-8-21) has given the Warriors another ace to an already deep squad that featured two of the best players in the state in fellow seniors Talya Hendrickson (3-14-17) and Kate Johnson (6-12-18). Sophomore forward Kaiya Sandy (5-5-10) is also off to a strong start this season.

Warroad's power play has been clicking at 37.5% this season, aided by defenders Abby Chamernick (0-8-8) and Katy Comstock (1-4-5) who hold the zone and allow the Warriors' forwards to go to work.

Senior Northern Lakes transfer Kate Stephens (3-0, .947 save percentage) has been rock solid, and sophomore Jordyn Werk (2-0, .900 save percentage) gives Warroad two very capable goaltenders to choose between.

Bemidji raised some eyebrows when it defeated a quality (8AA) Roseau squad 3-1 on the road last week. They did not play over Thanksgiving weekend, giving them time to prepare for this game.

At forward, the youthful Lumberjacks are led by junior Kristen McClellan (4-4-8), eighth grader Bailey Rupp (3-6-9), and freshman Megan Berg (3-4-7) carry most of the attack.

On defense, eighth graders Millie Knott (1-4-5) and Mali McLean (2-2-4) have played well so far this season, but no doubt they will get their biggest test of the season thus far against Warroad. Bemidji's penalty kill has been stifling opponents at a 94.7% rate, but the Lumberjacks would be wise to avoid taking penalties as much as possible.

Junior goaltender Payton Wiedemann (4-0, .944 save percentage) has been Bemidji's starter most nights. Sophomore Ava Myhre has a shutout in her only start this season.
