Windom at Waseca (Dec. 8, 7:00 PM)

This should be an intriguing Big South Conference showdown between two teams hoping to show they might be able to challenge perennial top dogs Luverne and New Ulm for the conference crown.

Part of that process is attempting new challenges and facing metro area teams, and the Eagles got a rude awakening as they were blitzed 9-2 by Two Rivers on Saturday.

The Eagles are led at forward by seniors Brady Espenson (4-1-5) and Chase Hamlett (0-1-1), and junior Karson Lacanne (2-1-3). Establishing some secondary scoring has been a challenge so far for Windom.

On defense, senior Owen Dahna and sophomore Landon Pillatzki lead a club that is a bit light on defensemen, so at times they have forwards like Espenson and Lacanne moonlight at that position.

Junior goaltender Grant Dronen (.787 save percentage) will certainly be tested by the Jays' offense.

Waseca is coming off its own harsh dose of reality as it was routed 11-1 by Luverne on Saturday. The Jays' forwards are led by seniors Kyle Ahlschlager (10-0-10) and Griffen Krautkramer (1-3-4).

On defense, Waseca looks to sophomores Lucas Groll (0-3-3) and Hunter Anderson (1-1-2) to shoulder most of the load defensively.

Senior goaltender Eli Weitzel (.774 save percentage) has carried all of the goaltending load for Waseca this season.
