Elk River/Zimmerman at Eden Prairie (Dec. 15, 6:00 PM)

Elk River's Carter Davis is back in the black-and-red after spending much of the fall skating for the USHL's Lincoln Stars.

This game is part of Edina's annual Holiday Classic, and these two clubs have traditionally faced one another to open the tournament. Eden Prairie has won the last three times these clubs have faced one another in this tournament. Will the Eagles keep that win streak against the Elks going?

Elk River/Zimmerman is coming off a 4-2 victory over Section 8AA Roseau on Saturday. The youthful Elks are led by sophomore Gavin Sperling (1-3-4), along with juniors Kole Mears (4-1-5) and Braden Hansberger (1-3-4).

On defense, seniors Carter Davis (1-3-4), Blake Rinehart, and junior Cooper Anderson (0-1-1) log a lot of minutes for Elk River/Zimmerman.

At goaltender, junior Sam Stockman (Utah commit for baseball, .909 save percentage) and sophomore Gavin Greniuk (1 shutout) have split time between the pipes for the Elks this season.

Eden Prairie hopes to build momentum after an 8-2 rout of Duluth East. The Eagles are led at forward by juniors Teddy Townsend (Minnesota commit, 1-4-5), Cole Saterdalen (2-1-3), and Connor Crowley (2-2-4), as well as freshman Mason Moe (2-2-4). However, secondary scoring and the power play, which has yet to find the back of the net this season are significant concerns.

On defense, juniors Tate Bloch (1-2-3) and Tommy Moen lead a young defense corps for the Eagles. Eden Prairie has yet to give up a power play goal this season.

At goaltender, Eden Prairie will probably give junior Isaiah Paulnock (1.96 goals against average) the start against the Elks.

Bally Sports will televise this game.
