Warroad at Edina (Jan. 5, 7:00 PM)

Cal Lindquist, Warroad

What happens when the top team in Class A faces one of the top teams in Class AA? We'll find out as the Warriors travel south to Braemar to face the Hornets.

Warroad is coming off a 6-1 victory over Crookston. The Warriors' dynamic offense is led by seniors Rylee Bartz (St. Thomas commit, 32-18-50), Kate Johnson(Bemidji State commit, 19-30-49), and Talya Hendrickson (Bemidji State commit, 15-30-45). As one might expect, with this much talent up front, Warroad's power play is very dangerous, finding the back of the net at a 41.3% rate.

On defense, seniors Abby Chamernick (3-21-24), Lexi Kirkeby (3-9-12), and Cahliah Lindquist (2-11-13), as well as sophomore Katy Comstock (2-6-8) make up a very skilled defense corps. However, if there is any semblance of weakness to this Warroad team, its penalty kill is a tiny bit suspect at 82.4%.

At goaltender, the Warriors have split starts between senior Kate Stephens (.936 save percentage, 4 shutouts) and freshman Jordyn Werk (.843 save percentage, 1 shutout) this season.

Edina is coming off a hard-fought 2-1 loss to state tournament rival Andover. The Hornets are led at forward by junior Hannah Halverson (Wisconsin commit, 8-8-16), senior Ellie Chapman (2-8-10), and sophomore Whitney Horton (6-10-16). Freshman Lorelai Nelson (6-7-13) is a rising star. The Hornets' power play has been a source of strength this season, lighting the lamp at a 28.2% rate.

On defense, seniors Lauren Zawoyski (Minnesota State commit, 3-4-7) and Sami Hankinson (1-2-3), as well as sophomore Tori Anderson (3-5-8), make for a solid group of two-way defenders.

Senior goaltender Uma Corneia (Princeton commit, .940 save percentage, 3 shutouts) may face her best test of the year against Warroad's high-powered offense that is averaging 7.29 goals per game.
