Warroad at Roseau (Jan. 24, 7:00 PM)

Rematches are fun.

Warroad prevailed 7-4 the first time these two rivals faced one another this season on January 10th. Can the Warriors pull off the series sweep?

Warroad is coming off an 8-1 rout of Duluth Denfeld and is currently the only undefeated team in the state. The Warriors are led by senior and the school's all-time leading scorer Jayson Shaugabay (Minnesota-Duluth commit, #64 NHL Central Scouting Midterm rankings, 19 goals, 35 assists, 54 points). Juniors Carson Pilgrim (33-21-54) and Murray Marvin-Cordes (10-15-25) provide dangerous secondary scoring options for Warroad.

With so much skill up front, it should be no surprise that Warroad's power play is among the best in the state at 34%. Youth Hockey Hub interviewed Jayson Shaugabay on an earlier episode of their Rink of Fire podcast.

On defense, senior Erick Comstock (5-21-26) and junior Ryan Lund (10-18-28) give Warroad a lot of versatility on the back end.

Senior Hunter Slukynsky (Northern Michigan commit, #26 NHL Central Scouting ranking among North American goaltenders, 1.39 goals against average, 5 shutouts) has been outstanding for the Warriors all season long. Youth Hockey Hub recently interviewed Slukynsky as part of their Rink of Fire podcast.

Roseau is coming off a respectable 2-2 tie to Wayzata. The Rams' forward group is led by juniors Noah Urness (26-27-53) and Gavin Jensen (8-25-33), as well as seniors Tanner George (15-16-31) and Preston Lundbohm (10-12-22).

On the blue line, juniors Jake Kvien (1-13-14) and Alex Ballard (3-7-10), along with sophomore Austin Klint (2-7-9), will be tasked with trying to slow down Warroad's attack.

Junior Connor Woidtke (.886 save percentage, two shutouts) has carried most of Roseau's goaltending workload this season.
