Aiden Welch, White Bear Lake

This is a big Suburban East Conference showdown, as both clubs hope to make noise in (White Bear Lake) Section 4AA and (Cretin-Derham Hall) Section 3AA, respectively.

Youth Hockey Hub recently interviewed Cretin-Derham Hall Head Coach Matt Funk on an episode of their Rink of Fire podcast.

Cretin-Derham Hall edged White Bear Lake 3-2 on February 4th. Can the Raiders do it again?

White Bear Lake is coming off a 3-2 overtime victory over Stillwater. The Bears' attack is led by junior Nolan Roed (St. Cloud State commit, 22-24-46) as well as seniors Aiden Welch (18-23-41) and Brady Borgestad (13-16-29), giving White Bear Lake most of its offensive punch up front. Sophomore Jack Stanius (11-22-33) is showing a lot of promise for the Bears.

On defense, seniors Joe Belisle (5-16-21) and Grady Gallatin (4-9-13), as well as sophomore Will Distad (2-5-7), provide White Bear Lake with capable puck movers and the ability to strike offensively from near the blueline.

Sophomore Leo Gabriel (2.20 goals against average, 4 shutouts) has been White Bear Lake's workhorse between the pipes for most of the season, but they have utilized senior Colin Thompson (1.33 goals against average) as well.

Cretin-Derham Hall is coming off a 6-2 loss to Stillwater. The Raiders are led up front by seniors Jake Fisher (Northern Michigan commit, 26-24-50), Atilla Lippai (St. Thomas commit, 15-22-37), and Colin Scanlan (7-11-18), as well as junior Chuck Owens (8-13-21) help Cretin-Derham Hall get rolling offensively. Freshman Max Anderson (12-7-19) is a rising star for the Raiders. Cretin-Derham Hall's 30% power play could be an x-factor going into this game.

Seniors Simon Houge (3-26-29) and Colton Jamieson (St. Thomas commit, 6-18-24), as well as Trey Gnetz (2-7-9), help Cretin-Derham Hall limit opposing scoring chances with solid positional play.

Cretin-Derham Hall has rotated at goaltender between junior Leo Miller (.894 save percentage) and sophomore Owen Nelson (.867 save percentage, 1 shutout) this season.
