Wayzata at Rogers (Feb. 16, 7:00 PM)

Jacob Kvasnicka, Wayzata

This is another intriguing indicator game as we head into the Section playoffs. Section 6AA Wayzata is hoping to earn the top seed in its section, while Rogers is hoping for the same in Section 5AA. Which team will help their cause?

Wayzata hopes to build momentum from a 4-0 rout of Eden Prairie. The Trojans forward group is led by juniors Rhys Wallin (11-17-28), Jake Mattson (10-17-27), Luke Miller (7-15-22), and Cade De St. Hubert (11-10-21) as well as senior Jibber Kuhl (12-4-16) give Wayzata a lot of offensive weapons up front. Freshman Jacob Kvasnicka (8-26-34) continues to show a ton of promise.

Senior defenseman Kasen Sauer (6-8-14) leads a skilled Wayzata blueline with juniors Jack Hartle (0-7-7) and Hawke Huff (3-8-11) as well as sophomore Finn De St. Hubert (0-13-13) that doesn't give up many prime scoring chances by being stout around the Trojans' crease.

Senior goaltender Will Ingemann (St. Thomas commit, .944 save percentage, 5 shutouts) is a source of stability and confidence for Wayzata Head Coach Pat O'LearyYouth Hockey Hub interviewed Will Ingemann as part of its Rink of Fire podcast.

Rogers is coming off a 3-1 loss to Duluth East. The Royals' attack is led by seniors Sam Ranallo (19-30-49) and Drew Krekelberg (7-7-14), as well as talented sophomores Parker Deschene (15-22-37) and Mason Jenson (20-20-40), giving Rogers more-than-adequate scoring power up front. Rogers' 25% power play is starting to build steam as they get closer to Section play.

On defense, senior Chase Cheslock (St. Thomas commit, #146 NHL Central Scouting ranking, 4-23-27) as well as sophomores Nolen Geerdes (3-18-21) and Jackson Smithknecht (6-11-17) make for a stingy defense corps that uses their mobility well to put opponents on their heels with an excellent transition game. Youth Hockey Hub interviewed Chase Cheslock as part of its Rink of Fire podcast.

Senior goaltender Cade Chapman (.898 save percentage, 1 shutout) has been Rogers' workhorse all season long between the pipes.
