Pink Team Preview

Where the Grey Team defense is Orono dominated, the Pink defense combines players from five high schools with one graduating senior from the Hudson Havoc team, Josh Storms.  Storms posted five assists in skating 28 games in the USPHL Premier League.  Kaidden O'Connor skated forward for Sibley last season.  The Warriors return only two defensemen next fall, and O'Connor is skating defense for the Pink Team.  Simley junior Charles Gustafson also skated varsity for a Simley team that had a great season losing to Mahtomedi one game short of the state.

Owatonna senior Drake Gieseke skated between varsity and JV for the Huskies last season.  Junior Anthony Hoops skated for Woodbury JV last season and St. Paul Academy senior Zach Tipler skated varsity last season.  Senior Simley goaltender Jacob Erickson skated for the Spartan JV team last season.

On the Pink offense are two Sibley forwards seniors Jack Greeley (12 points 5 goals) and Mikhail Greeley (10 points and 2 goals) that were in top ten scorers to play for the Warriors next fall.  The two are joined by Sibley juniors Ryan Blake and Jacob Schaefer (alternate).  Both Blake and Schaefer skated between the Warriors varsity and JV teams 2017-2018.

Three Simley junior forwards are skating Pink.  Carter Robinson scored 5 points 3 goals in 25 games; Shane Prifrel posted 3 points and 1 goal in 11 games; and Anthony Tuccitto skated in 18 varsity games.  All three should be skating varsity for the Spartans next season with eight of the varsities top ten scorers graduating.

Woodbury graduates only seven players from last season’s team (2 defense, four forwards, and one goalie).  Three of the Royals also form an all-junior line.  Tyler Barry played in 22 games and posted 3 assists; Ben Tschida played 25 games and posted 2 points 1 goal; and Andrew Selby.  Barry and Tschida skated varsity and Selby skated JV.  South St. Paul senior Dakotah Heimerl, Hastings junior Chase Freiermuth, and White Bear Lake junior Zack Kuyava complete the Pink forward's corps.  Kuyava posted 4 points 1 goal in 24 games for WBL last season.  Freiermuth scored 8 points 3 goals in 21 games and Heimerl skated 25 games at defense for the Packers scoring one goal.
Alternates Woodbury juniors Ethan Wu and Dylan Feith are on the Pink Team.  Wu skated junior gold for the Woodbury Association last year; Feith skated for the JV team.

Pink Team Summary: Pink beat Yellow 8-4 in Monday’s preliminary game.  All six Pink defenders come from different high schools.  Most of them skated varsity last season.  Storms should lead what should be an experienced defense.  Holding a Spring League team to under 5 goals is no small achievement.  The Pink team defensive corps should be tough.

The offense should be tougher with most of the forwards having skated varsity hockey and poised to be among the scoring leaders for Sibley, Simley, and Woodbury high school teams next fall.  The Pink is another tough spring team in the Red and Black league.  It will not matter who is on the ice for the Pink, there should be no fall-off in play.
