Detroit Red Wings 5, Team Pennsylvania 1

The boys from the Motor City picked up their first win on Wednesday morning, pumping a massive amount of shots on net in a 5-1 win over Team Pennsylvania.

Narinn Pozios netted the first goal of the game less than a minute into the first period, giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead until Team Pennsylvania’s Owen Stiers answered to send the game into the second frame knotted at 1-1.

Isaiah Pikora turned the second period into his own personal showcase, scoring two goals and frustrating the Team Pennsylvania defense for the full 12 minutes. James Gilliam dished out assists on both of Pikora’s goals. Camden Langfeld and Waylon Rivet tacked on insurance goals for the Red Wings in the third period, with goaltender James Fawaz making an incredible 43 saves in the win.

Toronto Pro Hockey 5, Saskatchewan Jr. Pats 1

It must have been an odd feeling for the members of the Toronto Pro Hockey squad.

Being down 1-0 after the first period, Pro Hockey found its skates three minutes into the second, hammering home three goals in less than two minutes en route to a resounding 5-1 win over Saskatchewan.

Zachary Nyman, Alexander Hage, and Adam Valentini were the goal-scorers in the second for Pro Hockey, ruining all of the momenta Cohen Harris had ramped up for the Jr. Pats with his goal in the first period.

Toronto would add to its lead in the third period, with Caleb Mitchell and Logan Hawery getting in on the action, while Dylan Durno did his job in the crease with 14 saves on 15 shots for Pro Hockey. Durno’s counterpart, Saskatchewan’s Carson Phipps, stopped 25 of 30 shots in the losing effort.

The Jr. Rangers scored once in each period, with Joey Banas netting his goal in the first, and Charlie Puglisi scoring in both the second and third frames. Joey Salandra, Kaiden Sahajpal, and Nolan Duskocy all tallied assists in the win.

Toronto Bulldogs 3, Team Manitoba 1

A sluggish start to the game wasn’t nearly enough to stop the defending champion Toronto Bulldogs, as the top team in the Styles Conference extended its perfect record with a 3-1 win over Team Manitoba.

The game began scoreless, with only six combined shots coming from two teams who had shown a penchant for scoring in their previous games. Toronto Bulldogs forward Beckham Edwards kicked off the scoring with an unassisted tally in the second period, quickly followed by a goal from Ryan Yurkiw of the Bulldogs.

Team Manitoba sliced the lead in half when J.P. Hurlbert scored midway through the third period, but momentum swung back to the Bulldogs as Edwards notched his second goal of the game and seventh of the tournament late in regulation to put the game out of reach for Team Manitoba.

Western Selects 5, Team Minnesota 1

A four-goal first period is generally considered a good start for any hockey team, let alone a team made up of nine and ten-year-olds.
Couple that hot start with an inspired performance from your goaltender, and good things tend to happen, as the Western Selects got both in a 5-1 win over Team Minnesota.

Austin Brock found his scoring touch for the Western Selects, netting his first two goals of the Brick Invite less than two minutes between each other as his squad raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first frame. In addition to Brock’s goals, Cooper Soller and Gavin Clark added to the Western Selects lead.

Dylan Dean put Team Minnesota on the board just 26 seconds into the second period, but Team Minnesota was unable to capitalize on any momentum gained from its initial goal. Logan Stuart scored at the 8:11 mark of the third period to make the score its final at 5-1. Morgan Stickney made 26 saves in the win for the Western Selects.
