Western Selects 4, Chicago Jr. Blackhawks 0

Alaska import Drake Owens turned away all 23 shots he saw to lead the Western Selects to a textbook 4-0 win over Chicago, a game bookended by two-goal periods from the Western Selects.

The first two goals for the Western Selects came from Aidan Yu and Cooper Soller, while Owens made six stops in the first. Offensively talented defenseman Alexander Command stretched the Western Selects’ lead to 3-0 early in the third period, with Logan Stuart netting his fifth goal (up until that point) of the tournament at the 8:21 mark of the third frame.

To Chicago’s defensive credit, Nathan Sutto made 19 saves in the loss.

BC Jr. Canucks 3, Team Quebec 0

Team Quebec’s fabulous goaltending remained so during its loss to British Columbia, but while Patrick Deniger’s 35 saves looked good on the scoresheet, BC’s three goals look even better.

Mathis Preston scored twice for the Jr. Canucks in the win, including putting home the empty-net clincher. Nickolas Kovich also scored in the win for the Jr. Canucks, capitalizing on slick passing from Caleb Malhotra and Tyus Sparks for his first goal of the tournament.

Micah Davidson stopped 20 shots to earn the shutout, no small feat against a Team Quebec squad bursting with offensive skill. The Jr. Canucks remain in the hunt in the Wigston Conference with a 2-1-1 record but are just one point ahead of the Saskatchewan Jr. Pats in the standings.
