2008 Division

The Minnesota Icemen will meet Hometown Hockey in the finals of the 2008 Division, each with a thrilling semifinal win in hand.

The Icemen scored four times in the first period to take a 4-1 lead over quarterfinal opponent Jr. Islanders, but suffered a lapse in defense and allowed the Bemidji-based Islanders to claw their way back into the game with a strong third period. However, the Icemen clamped down in the final minutes and hung on for a 6-5 win. Quinto VeDepo scored two goals and totaled four points, while Nate Chorlton tallied a hat-trick and added an assist in the win for the Icemen.

Hometown took the opposite route of the Icemen, scoring three times to snatch a 4-3 win away from the Yuro Stars in the other semifinal. Nolan Fitzhenry scored twice in the third to pull Hometown within one, and then tie the game, while Nate Pederson netted the game-winner with exactly one second remaining on the clock. Pederson jumped on a turnover in the neutral zone and cruised in all alone before burying the puck.
