Lakeville South is headed to the 1AA final

Lakeville South > Hastings (8-1)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Cade Ahrenholz 4G 0A
Adam Harvey 1G 3A
Henry Welsch 23 Saves

Tony's Take

The section seeding process was proven wrong, as the number one seed got taken to running time. The only upside was fans got to see Hastings' flashy yellow uniforms.  Cade Ahrenholz too much for the Raiders today.

Cougars roared on Saturday in Rochester

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Josh Lee 2G 1A

North bears down and takes out upstart Owatonna. The Panthers will play Lakeville South in the section final, again. The two teams split this year. South won the last meeting last Saturday at Ames.

North will face South in Rochester for the 1AA title

TONY'S TAKE

There is always one huge surprise on SSS. It usually hits early in the day, this time it was at 9:07 PM. Holy Family avenges a gut wrenching loss to Minnetonka last year and knocks off the defending state champ...setting up a huge section final against Eden Prairie. The Fire's third trip to Mariucci.

The Fire is 1 game away from their first trip to the X

The Cadets have not lost since December. They have a 17-game win streak heading into the section final. Balanced scoring and really tough defense have been their calling card so far.

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Jack Mason 2G 1A
Keegan Johnson 1G 1A
Derek Manzella 39 Saves .951 %

TONY'S TAKE

This is a mini-surprise....not because we didn't value how good Eagan was, more we thought so highly of Rosemount. They have bonafide D1 players everywhere. The Wildcats will have to tie or win the first period against STA in order to make their first trip back to St. Paul since 2014.

Section 4AA Quarters

White Bear Lake > Roseville (7-2)
Hill Murray > Tartan (3-2, OT)

The Bengals get another great performance from Brodzinski and Richels...they are RED HOT. The win over Centennial gives Blaine their 16th win in a row. They will face the winner of Maple Grove and Champlin.

Maple Grove > Champlin Park (4-2)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Kyle Kukkonen 3G 0A
Tyler Kostelecky 1G 1A
Jack Wieneke 24 Saves
Brennan Boynton 46 Saves

TONY'S TAKE

Sophomore Kyle Kukkonen showed why he was Bantam Player of the Year last year...he can just take over a game like very few.  The Crimson face a tough test next Thursday when they travel to Aldrich to take on Blaine. Blaine is playing at different level than MG at this point. The first 10 minutes of the game will be huge for the Crimson.

BSM moves on to play Edina/Blake winner at Mariucci on Wednesday

TONY'S TAKE

Benilde proves their seeding by edging a very good Wayzata team. A changing of the guard in 6AA - Benilde is deep, so is Blake.

Edina > Blake (4-2)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Liam Malmquist 2G 0A
Mason Nevers 1G 1A
Joe Miller 1G 1A

TONY'S TAKE

The number one ranked and seeded Hornets did their part and kept the Bears at arm's length Saturday at BIG. Serve notice to 6AA, Blake will be a top 10 team in 2019-20. Edina beat BSM 5-2 in November, the complexion of the game will be different. BSM young guys have more experience. The game will be played on Olympic sized sheet.

Liam Malmquist, Edina

Section 7AA

Andover > Elk River (8-0)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Charlie Schoen 2G 4A
Luke Kron 2G 2A
Ben Fritsinger 18 Saves

TONY'S TAKE

Andover was very impressive today...the 20 shot onslaught in the first period should have been the first clue. The Huskies will be a tough out on Thursday for Cloquet/East winner.

Duluth East > Cloquet-Esko-Carlton (5-2)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Ryder Donovan 1G 3A
Ricky Lyle 2G 2A

TONY'S TAKE

The rematch of last year's 7AA final is set. These two teams played in an OT thriller last year and again this year at Andover. Look for more of the same Thursday night. Ryder Donovan blew up Amsoil today - showing why he's the highest rated HS player on NHL Central Scouting list.

Section 8AA

Brainerd > Roseau (4-2)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Brady Anderson 1G 1A
Riley Anderson 1G 1A
Mason Kruse 1G* OA
* GWG

TONY'S TAKE

Warriors are for real. They go into the Memorial building and beat Roseau - a great win. Brainerd has been here before, but has never gotten over the hump. They will face Buffalo/Moorhead winner on Thursday.

Moorhead > Buffalo (3-0)

Player Stat 1 Stat 2
Michael Overbo 1G 0A
Thomas Horan 1G 0A
Nolan Westra 1G 0A
Hudson Hodges 23 Saves 1.000 %

TONY'S TAKE

The Spuds are back in the section final...AGAIN. 20+ years of being there never gets old.  Like a well-oiled machine the Spuds are hitting their stride at the right time of year. They will face Brainerd in a very, very tricky game. The Warriors have been playing better and better as the season wears on and have not beaten the Spuds yet this year. Hungry plus loose has to worry even the most confident Spud backers.
