Landon Palmgren stood tall for Edina during West Region play

Woodbury vs. Stillwater

Woodbury is 23-0-1 since losing to Chaska-Chanhassen on Dec. 11, posting eight shutouts in that span. The Predators have played exceptionally on defense, allowing opponents to score just 68 goals in 45 games. Stillwater has the advantage of playing in its home rink for the state tournament, and the Ponies have gone 10-2-1 in their last 13 games. Both losses in that stretch came against Chaska-Chanhassen, ranked No. 1 in the final YHH Staff Rankings. The Ponies are 3-4-1 in games against opponents competing in this weekend’s tourney.

Duluth East vs. Minnetonka

Since a 7-4 loss to Hermantown, Duluth East has gone 8-0-1, snapping the Hounds out of a winless five-game stretch in early February. The Hounds will face Minnetonka, as the Skippers slipped past Osseo-Maple Grove in overtime of the West Region second-place game. Battle-tested, the Skippers have played 14 games against tournament opponents, going 6-6-2.

Chaska-Chanhassen vs. Eden Prairie

At 48-3-3, Chaska-Chanhassen boasts the most impressive regular-season record of any team in the tournament, and the Stormhawks have gone 14-0-2 in their last 16 games. Over the course of 54 contests, the Stormhawks have outscored their opponents 387-82. Eden Prairie doesn’t exactly come into the weekend on a hot streak, going 3-4-1 in its last eight games. Like Teddy Townsend’s miracle goal during the Region playoffs, in which he slapped a face-off past a Wayzata goaltender with 2.1 seconds left on the clock, the Eagles shouldn’t be counted out in March.

Edina vs. Roseau

With three shutouts over its last six games (all wins), Edina has proven it has the luxury of two No. 1 goaltenders the team can rotate. With both Joe Bertram and Landon Palmgren between the pipes, the Hornets advanced out of a tough West Region, shutting out Osseo-Maple Grove in the process. Roseau is 16-2 in its last 18 games with one of those losses coming against the Winnipeg (MB) East Side Marauders. With a record of 42-8-2, the Rams are seasoned after 52 games, and four of those eight losses came against state-tournament teams.
