Edina vs. Mounds View-Irondale

Edina is 4-3 against teams participating in this year’ Peewee A State Tournament, defeating Orono and splitting with Chaska-Chanhassen with three wins and three losses against the Stormhawks. The Hornets are 32-9-4 overall and are riding a six-game winning streak. Mounds View-Irondale emerged from a brutal Peewee A East Region as the second team, falling only to Region champion Orono. MVI is 21-2-1 in its last 24 games and enters the tournament with an overall record of 44-9-3.

Rogers vs. Warroad

On a 12-game winning streak, Rogers poses a threat to defending state champion Warroad in the first round, with the Royals winning 11 of those games by at least five goals. The Warriors are 3-3 in their last six games, with two of those losses coming against fellow state tournament participant East Grand Forks. Don’t be fooled by a .500 recency bias, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 330-160, and are 33-12-1.

Orono vs. Chaska-Chanhassen

Rated No. 1 in the NOW Rankings and on a six-game winning streak, Orono enters the tourney as the prohibitive favorite. The Spartans have won 13 of their last 15 games, and are 4-2 against tournament opponents, including a 4-1 win over Warroad early in the season. Chaska-Chanhassen fell to Orono 5-1 on Oct. 17, but the Stormhawks have romped their way to a season record of 46-6-3. Through 55 games, the Stormhawks have outscored opponents 349-99.

East Grand Forks vs. Spring Lake Park 

All five of East Grand Forks’ losses have been by a single goal, and the Green Wave have won seven consecutive games since a 1-0 loss to Alexandria on Feb. 9. Spring Lake Park has won five of its last six games, capping a remarkable turnaround for the Panthers since starting the season 7-12. The Panthers have gone 23-10-3 since Dec. 5.
