Prior Lake vs. Edina

In what could be considered a state title game in and of itself, Prior Lake takes on Edina in the quarterfinals in Moorhead. The Lakers won the Battle for the Blue Ox this fall, and have posted a record of 45-7-6 this season. In four games that have advanced to overtime this season, the Lakers have a record of 3-1.

The Lakers are 2-0-1 against Edina this season. Since a 2-1 loss in quadruple-overtime against Elk River during Region play, Edina has outscored its opponents 25-6, indicating that the Hornets are hitting their stride (or buzz) at the tight time during the year. The last regular-season loss to a Bantam AA team for the Hornets came on Dec. 8.

Roseau vs. Chaska-Chanhassen

Roseau lost four consecutive games near the end of the season before winning five straight to earn a state tournament berth. Chaska-Chanhassen shed its own losing streak (five games in early January) to advance to the state tournament. The Stormhawks feature a talented lineup capable of hanging a crooked number on the scoreboard against most opponents.

Lakeville South vs. Osseo-Maple Grove

In its last eight games, Lakeville South is 7-0-1, and have a record of 27-9-8 this season. Of those nine losses, four of them have been by a single goal, and five of them have come against state tournament teams.

Osseo-Maple Grove finished as the Battle For the Blue Ox’s runner-up, losing to Prior Lake in a shootout. Six of the Leafbirds’ 10 losses have been to teams whose primary colors are blue and gold. The Leafbirds are 3-2 in their last five, with both losses coming against State Tournament teams.

Wayzata vs. Moorhead

With a record of 47-11-7, Wayzata has played 65 games this season. The Trojans are unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 games, with the lone loss of the stretch by a score of 4-3 to Edina. The Trojans have not lost a game by more than three goals this season.

Moorhead has won six of its last seven games, and the Spuds have the built-in advantage of playing at their home rink. In 17 of the Spuds’ 27 wins this season, Moorhead has scored at least six goals.

Wayzata celebrates a win during this year's Spirit of Duluth Tournament.
