Girls Major Preview

Marshall

Marshall has game-breakers on both sides of the puck and is in good shape for this coming weekend. With Ashlyn Hoff, Amelia McQuay, and Hannah Graves helping to pace a speedy offense, the goals should come in bunches for Marshall. Ella Thoreson and Abby Hansberger make an intimidating pair on the blue line, and the group’s overall depth could overwhelm opponents. Graves finished last year tied for first in the Girls Minor leading scorers with six total points.

Moorhead

With goaltender Taylor Kressin as the anchor, Moorhead could make some noise in Bloomington. The Fargo native with the quick glove was named to the 2017 Danglefest All-Tournament Team and backstops a squad with playmakers at both defense and forward. Forward Mercury Bischoff skated with the Grand Rapids Peewee AA team last season after scoring registering five points in the Girls Minor Division of the Peewee Challenge.

Ramsey

Two of the Ramsey skaters, Alexa Niccum and Makayla Moran, have already shown they can compete at this tournament with impressive performances last year. Niccum tied for the scoring lead in the Girls Minor Division with six total points, while Moran tallied three goals and four points. Moran was also selected as the Most Valuable Player of the 2019 Stars of Tomorrow Tournament’s U12 Division. The high-flying duo fronts a team with scoring threats from both forwards and defenders, and one that takes care of its own end.

Richfield

Like Ramsey, Richfield features two of the Girls Minor Division scoring leaders from last season in Kendall Rykkeli and Sawyer Fleming. Rykkeli scored two goals and added four assists, while Fleming reversed the stat line with four goals and a pair of helpers. In addition to Rykkeli and Fleming, Richfield’s lineup features five other players that were a part of last year’s Southwest team that finished as runner-up to Grand Rapids.

Williams

Balance and depth will be critical for Williams this weekend, as will relying on players who have won this tournament before for production and guidance. Toriana Anderson, Mackenzie Jones, Kendall Hassler, Ruby Ryan, Hanna Olson, and Kelsey Olson were all members of last year’s Grand Rapids team that downed Southwest for the Girls Minor Division title. Look for solid goaltending and smart play from Williams.
