Edina 9, Mahtomedi 1

If there was any doubt about which Peewee AA team was tops in Minnesota, that doubt has been set on fire and burned to a crisp.

Edina outscored its opponents 32-4 on the weekend, posting two shutouts, and pulled away from a talented Mahtomedi squad for a 9-1 win in the Black Bracket championship. With the score at 2-1 entering the third, the Hornets racked up seven goals, including five in a span of just over three minutes near the end of the final frame. Mason West’s hat trick tied with Tucker Johnson and Alex White’s lines of a goal and two assists each as the leading scorers for the Hornets on Sunday. Brayden Fuerst scored the lone goal of the loss for the Zephyrs.

Mahtomedi’s road to the championship included wins over Wayzata, Andover, and Osseo-Maple Grove, with the Zephyrs surrendering just four goals along the way before facing the Hornets. Ryland Demars and his three-goal, nine-point performance sat atop the Zephyrs’ scoring table, and the crafty forward was named to the First Team All-Tournament team, as was defenseman Henry Sampair.

Forwards Mason West, Parker Trottier, goaltender Wyatt Spindler, and defenseman Sam Peckham filled out the all-tourney squad for the Hornets. Tucker Johnson led the loaded Hornet squad with five goals and 12 points, earning him a place on the All-Tournament’s Second Team.
