White Bear Lake 2, Rosemount 1

One of only two tournament games to go to a shootout played out on Sunday, as White Bear Lake topped Rosemount 2-1 thanks to a goal by Tanner Olsen and three sparkling saves by T.J. Neill. For three periods, White Bear Lake threw shot after shot at Rosemount’s Sam Clements, who finished with well over 20 saves, but the Bears could not solve the Irish puzzle.

Channing Goodwin opened the scoring with a goal in the second period, an even-strength tally answered by the Bears’ Camden Autrey on a beautiful shorthanded breakaway attempt midway through the third frame. With neither team able to find the net after Autrey’s goal, the game advanced to overtime and then a shootout, setting the stage for Olsen’s and Neill’s heroics.

White Bear Lake opened the weekend with a 4-0 win over Farmington before a disappointing loss to Osseo-Maple Grove. Wins over Chaska/Chanhassen and Minnetonka sent the Bears to Sunday’s Orange Bracket title game. Autrey led the Bears with four goals and five points on the weekend. Rosemount scored wins over Spring Lake Park, Prior Lake, and Stillwater en route to Sunday’s game and fell to West Fargo before losing to White Bear Lake. Connor Schubert’s five goals and 10 total points led the way for the Irish.

Tanner Olsen scored in Sunday's shootout to lift White Bear Lake to a 2-1 win over Rosemount.
