Ryder Houkom (left) earns a pat on the head from a teammate after scoring in West Fargo White win over Stillwater Red.
In a game that threatened to go on into the wee hours of Monday morning, West Fargo prevailed 5-4 over Stillwater Red to capture the Squirtacular Silver Division championship.
West Fargo galloped to a 3-0 lead with two goals in the first period and one midway through the second, thanks to scores from Isaiah Lies, Reid Giese, Greyson Elseth. Undeterred, Stillwater rattled off four consecutive goals in what felt like rapid succession. Henry Zirbes and Kade Vanek each scored twice in that span, giving the Ponies a 4-3 lead entering the third period.
Ryder Houkom tied the game for the Stampeded with 8:09 remaining in the third period, and less than four minutes later, Tournament MVP Lies scored the game-winner on assists from Wyatt Mattson and Houkom.
