The drive from Des Moines, Iowa, to the National Sports Center in Blaine, is just under four hours, and the Des Moines Jr. Bucs will likely be popping Gatorade bottles the whole way home.
The Jr. Bucs capped a dominant run through the Squirtacular's Bronze Division with an 8-2 win over Cottage Grove on Sunday, powered by Tournament MVP Nixon McLean's hat trick and two assists. McLean finished the tournament with 11 goals and 15 points.
Des Moines scored four times in the first period and four more times in the third in the win, with Cottage Grove getting on the board first in the second and then once more in the final frame. Mason Corkish and Coen Geyen were the goal-scorers for the Wolfpack.
In addition to McLean's scoring outburst, Finn Lainson scored twice, as did Alexander Giunta. Sammy Clark also added a goal for the Jr. Bucs.
