Class AA

Minnetonka's Grace Sadura has 11 goals and 20 points this season, already tying her 20-point mark from the 2019-2020 regular season.

1. Andover (7-0)

No change at No. 1 as the Huskies downed Elk River/Zimmerman 5-1 and blanked Blaine 6-0 last week. One of the cruelest jokes of 2020-2021 is that this group didn’t get the chance to play a full schedule in a normal setting.

2. Edina (7-0)

The Hornets topped No. 3-2A Minnetonka 3-2 and shut out No. 4-2A Hill-Murray 1-0. The Hornets have allowed just five goals this season and feature five players that are averaging at least one point per game against the best competition in the state.

3. Minnetonka (6-1)

It’s going to take a lot more than a one-goal loss to No. 2-2A Edina to knock the Skippers out of the No. 3 slot. Minnetonka bounced back from the loss to the Hornets with a 4-1 win over Lake Conference rival Wayzata and will get another shot at Edina on Mar. 2. Sophomore Grace Sadura has recorded 11 goals and 20 points through seven games, already matching her regular-season total from last year.

4. Hill-Murray (6-1)

It’s going to take a lot more than a one-goal loss to No. 2-2A Edina to knock the Pioneers out of the No. 4 slot.

Wait. Did I already use that line? Yes. Yes, I did.

The Pioneers rebounded after the Edina loss with a 9-0 win over Henry Sibley/St. Paul, proving that the best medicine after a disappointing loss is to score nearly 10 goals in your next game. Junior backup goaltender Taylor Anderson spelled started Grace Zhan in the win over the Riveters, making 11 saves to earn the shutout.

5. Maple Grove (5-2)

Since the devastating 7-0 loss to No. 1-2A Andover, the Crimson have picked up wins over Champlin Park/Coon Rapids (3-1) and Osseo/Park Center (4-2). A trio of games against Rogers, Anoka/Spring Lake Park, and Armstrong /Cooper is up next for the Crimson before a rematch with Blaine. The Crimson fell to the Bengals in the season-opener 1-0.

6. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (5-1-2)

A 3-1 loss to Hill-Murray was followed by a 0-0 tie with Holy Family since the last batch of rankings, but the Red Knights earned a 5-3 win over Blake on Saturday for their first victory since Jan. 28. A date with Chaska/Chanhassen on Feb. 9 is the last contest before a brutal five-game stretch that includes two games each against Edina and Minnetonka before facing No. 3-1A Breck on Feb. 23.

7. Stillwater (6-0-1)

The Ponies saw their winning streak end with a 4-4 tie against Forest Lake, a team they thumped 8-1 in the first game of the season. In order to earn the draw, the Ponies needed four straight goals after going down 4-0, including three in the third period and the tying tally in the last minute.

8. Roseau (5-2-1)

The Rams edged high-flying Grand Rapids/Greenway 4-3 after suffering their second loss of the season, once again falling to rival Warroad. Roseau will travel to Warroad again on Feb. 23f for its third matchup against the Warriors and will play them one more time in the second-to-last game of the season on Mar. 11.

9. Centennial (6-1)

Less than a week after being featured as one of the best unranked teams in the state, the Cougars crash the top-10, beating Osseo/Park Center 2-1 and Armstrong/Cooper 6-1. The Cougars are 5-0 since losing to Maple Grove on Jan. 19, and will get quality teams in their next two games as they face Blaine and Andover on Feb. 9 and Feb. 13, respectively.

10. Blaine (5-2)

The Bengals had a three-game winning streak snapped in a 6-0 loss to Andover. While giving up six goals to the Huskies doesn’t make them any different from Andover’s other opponents, being outshot 68-6 had to be demoralizing. Hailey Hansen once again put on a spectacular performance in the Andover loss, stopping 62 of 68 shots.

Emma Conner currently leads No. 2-2A Edina in scoring with 13 goals and 17 points.

Class A

1. Warroad (5-1)

The loss to Gentry Academy over the weekend doesn't diminish what the Warriors have accomplished this season, including two wins against perennial top-10 Class AA team Roseau. The Warriors have another "metro" swing coming up next weekend to face Dodge County and Bloomington Jefferson.

2. Gentry Academy (6-1)

From unranked to No. 2, Gentry Academy rides the rocket ship known as defeating No. 1-1A Warroad to nearly the top of the rankings. The win over Warroad was huge for the Stars, who now get a pair of Class AA opponents on the docket in No. 7-2A Stillwater and Woodbury.

3. Chisago Lakes (7-1)

The 5-2 loss to Blake is long in the rearview mirror for the Wildcats, who've rattled of six wins since that defeat against the Bears. Jenna Lawry (13-11-24) and Dani Burgen (12-11-23) rank as two of the state's leading scorers, and should continue to pile up numbers in three very winnable games coming up. Circle Feb. 27 as a date to remember, as the Wildcats will travel to Mound Westonka for a what should be a barnburner.

4. Breck (4-2)

A 4-1 win over Dodge County isn't enough to move Breck in the rankings, but a four-game span that includes heavyweights Hill-Murray (rematch) and Benilde-St. Margaret's could beef up the Mustangs' resume.

5. Proctor-Hermantown (4-0)

Still not much in the way of competition for Proctor-Hermantown, as the Mirage defeated their last two opponents by a combined score of 24-0. The only highlight of those two contests came in the 10-0 win over International Falls, where Bronco goaltender Naomi Carradice made 97 saves, the second-most all-time for a single game.

Gretta Pioske, shown here competing at the 2019 MN Selects Festival, has six goals and 12 points for Mound Westonka this season.
