**Centennial vs. (2) Edina

Quarterfinal One: Centennial (16-5) vs. (2) Edina (19-0)

Centennial could be the most dangerous unseeded team in the field after upsetting Class 2A, Section 5’s No. 2 seed Blaine and the section’s top seed Maple Grove en route to its first state tournament appearance since 2018.

The Cougars, helmed by first-year Head Coach Sean Molin, feature just five seniors on a roster that includes nine eighth or ninth-graders, including freshman sensation in goal, Kaitlin Groess. Groess is currently carrying a save percentage of .913, and has earned five shutouts this season. Offensively, junior forward Megan Goodreau (26 goals, 19 assists, 45 points) paces the team in scoring, followed by sophomore forward Lauren O’Hara (17-20-37).

Where to start with Edina? The Hornets had their run of state titles halted last season in a 5-3 Class 2A State Tournament championship loss to Andover, but the talent level has done anything but dip at Braemar Ice Arena. Minneapolis Star-Tribune Metro Player of the Year Emma Conner (32-11-43) has put up impressive numbers against one of the state’s most demanding schedules, while junior defender and Minnesota commit Vivian Jungels (12-29-41) ranks as one of Minnesota’s highest-scoring defenders. Ms. Hockey finalist and Harvard commit Hannah Chorske (12-15-27) ranks second on the team in power-play goals with four.

Sophomore goaltender and Princeton commit Uma Corniea is undefeated between the pipes at 14-0 and has a goals-against-average 0.92, a .954 save percentage, and six shutouts.

**Due to a positive COVID-19 test result, Centennial was withdrawn from the tournament field. Edina will receive a bye into the semifinals.
