11 AM: Rochester Lourdes vs. (2) Warroad

Maggie Hanzel, Rochester Lourdes

Quarterfinal One: Rochester Lourdes (9-8) vs. No. 2 Warroad (19-1)

Rochester Lourdes edged top-seeded Albert Lea 3-2 in the Section 1-1A to make its third consecutive trip to the Class 1A State Tournament, despite losing five of last year’s six leading scorers and last season’s starting goaltender to a mix of graduation and transfer.

This year, senior defender and Boston University commit Maggie Hanzel (20 goals, 18 assists, 38 points) leads the Eagles to St. Paul, accompanied by senior forwards Abby Wick (12-22-34) and Carmen Erickson (9-12-21) as the top-scorers for the Eagles.

Eighth-grade goaltender Ida Huber has posted a .899 save percentage this season and stopped 24 of 26 shots in the section final.

Meeting the Eagles in round one will be second-seeded Warroad, which throttled Rochester Lourdes 6-1 in last year’s third-place game. The lone loss suffered by the Warriors came against No. 1-1A Gentry Academy in early February, and the five-time defending Section 8-1A champions have won 14 straight coming into the state tourney.

Ms. Hockey finalist Geno Hendrickson (27-32-59) paces the Warriors in scoring, followed by sophomore Talya Hendrickson (17-31-48), junior forward Madison Lavergne (20-19-39), and sophomore forward Kate Johnson (19-19-38).
