2012 Minnesota Blades AAA, 2021 AAA State champions

The 2012 Minnesota Blades AAA scored three times in the last 45 seconds of the second period to pull off the upset in the Squirt Minor Division, edging No. 1 seed Hometown Hockey 6-4 to kick off Championship Sunday in Eden Prairie. 

The Blades' Ryker Smith and Hometown's Finn Rohlf each scored in the first period to send the game into the second tied at 1-1. Hometown scored twice early in the second frame to take a 3-1 advantage on Preston Ryan and Marshall McKinnon's goals and seemingly took a commanding lead over the Blades. 

With 46 seconds to play in the second, Henrik Morrell pulled the Blades within one at 3-2. Twenty-three seconds after that, Henry Sterns scored on an impressive individual effort, and then with 14 seconds remaining, Caleb Schultz notched the Baldes' third goal of the final minute. 

Riding the wave of momentum stemming from the second stanza's frantic finish, the Blades held on for a 6-4 win, with Sterns and Schultz tallying their second goals in the third. Finn Rohlf scored his second goal for Hometown in the final period. 


Henry Sterns of the Minnesota Blades was named Most Valuable Player after netting two goals in Sunday's championship win over Hometown Hockey.
