Moorhead 6, Woodbury 3

Moorhead, Battle for the Blue Ox Black Bracket champions.

Shallow wisdom may assume that Moorhead’s run to the ultimate Blue Ox championship was the result of home-ice advantage.

The way the Spuds played this weekend, they could have won a title on a frozen lake in Saskatchewan or on the scorching asphalt of Scottsdale.

The Spuds scored three times in the second period, erasing a 2-1 deficit and attaining the lead they never relinquished, finishing off Woodbury by a score of 6-3.

Defenseman Sam Laurila (rhymes with gorilla) capped his impressive weekend with a hat trick in the championship, helping him take home co-Most Valuable Player honors and earn a spot on the Blue Ox All-Tournament Team.

Lakeville South's Jackson Ernst was also named co-MVP, breaking the tournament scoring record of 19 points with 12 goals and 21 points over the weekend.

Joining Laurila were Spuds were his defensive partner Garrett Lindberg, plus forwards Mason Kraft, and Brooks Cullen. Making the All-Tournament Team from Woodbury were goaltender Preston Fonseca and forward Thomas Dittrich.

Moorhead's Sam Laurila was named Blue Ox Most Valuable Player on Sunday.
