East Grand Forks at Mahtomedi, Dec. 3 (7:00 PM)

Jaksen Panzer, East Grand Forks

This match-up of two perennial small-school powerhouses will be a great barometer to see where these clubs should fit in the Class A rankings picture. The Green Wave suffered a tough 4-2 loss to a talented Delano squad on Saturday.

East Grand Forks is led at forward by junior and North Dakota-commit Jaksen Panzer, who was also mentioned in the Hockey News article, fellow junior Caleb Schmiedeberg (1-0-1), and sophomore Grady Magner (0-2-2). Senior defenseman Justin Overgaard (1-0-0) will try to do his part at either end of the ice. Head Coach Tyler Palmiscno will have to choose between senior goaltender Elijah Kolstoe and sophomore Chase Mero, who will have to have a big game to beat a team like Mahtomedi.

The Zephyrs are coming off a strong 6-1 win over Orono and are making a good argument to be considered one of the top teams in Class A. Mahtomedi is led at forward by a trio of juniors David Wolsfeld (2-5-7), Charlie Drage (5-1-6) and Carter Haycraft (1-5-6). On defense, junior Cav Bruner (0-2-2) and senior Owen Harrod (0-2-2) will do what they can to neutralize the Green Wave's attack. Head Coach Jeff Poeschl will not hesitate to give senior goaltender Ben Dardis (.976 save percentage) the start.
