Class AA

Rogers goaltender Lauren Larson recorded back-to-back shutouts last week, making 33 saves in the process.

1. Andover (7-0)

Not much to report about top-ranked Andover, other than the Huskies continue to win.

St. Thomas commit Ella Boerger led last week’s 11-0 win over Armstrong/Cooper with a goal and three assists.

2. Edina (6-0)

The Hornets topped Benilde-St. Margaret’s 3-1 last week thanks to a pair of goals in the third period and a late defensive stand against the pressuring Red Knights. Road games against No. 5-2A Stillwater and Buffalo are on top this week.

3. Minnetonka (7-1)

After Minnetonka’s matchup with No. 2-2A Edina was postponed, the Skippers spent their pent-up energy in a 6-0 drubbing of Shakopee. While offensively impressive, the defense has also been a strong suit. The Skippers have not allowed more than two goals in a game since a 4-3 win over Stillwater nearly a month ago on Nov. 16.

4. Centennial/Spring Lake Park (7-0-1)

Like Andover and Edina, all the Cougars do is win.

Last week yielded victories over Anoka and Mounds View, and the Cougars have a highly anticipated matchup with No. 8-2A Rogers on the docket for this week. The Royals and Cougars will square off on Saturday in Rogers.

5. Stillwater (5-2-1)

The Ponies nearly dropped in the rankings after a tie with Cretin-Derham Hall, but last week’s epic 1-1 draw (in which Stillwater pumped around 50 shots in the CDH net) says more about the talent of the Raiders than the shortcomings of the Ponies.

Stillwater will get a chance at a signature win when they host No. 2-2A Edina on Dec. 16.

6. Holy Family (5-2-1)

With Friday’s game against No. 10-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s postponed, the Fire posted a 4-1 win over Moorhead. The Fire is back in action against Wright County Conference rival Litchfield-Dassel/Cokato and nonconference foe Alexandria this week.

7. Rosemount (9-1)

Three games, three wins for Rosemount, which has already equaled last year’s wins total at nine. Among the three victories was a wild 10-7 triumph over South Suburban Conference rival Apple Valley, which is in the conversation for the most entertaining game at almost the midpoint of the season.

8. Rogers (7-2)

After falling to No. 1-2A Andover and moving up the rankings due to how the Royals played the Huskies, the Royals picked up two wins last week. Both wins were shutouts, as the Royals blanked Champlin Park/Coon Rapids 6-0 and Anoka 3-0.

Lauren Larson completed both blank sheets for the Royals, stopping 22 shots against CP/CR and 11 against the Tornadoes.

9. Wayzata (8-3)

The Trojans followed the same path as the Royals, shutting out Mounds View 6-0 and Brainerd/Little Falls 3-0.

The Trojans will play North Wright County on Dec. 14, then take on No. 2-2A Edina the following Tuesday.

10. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (1-3-1)

A toss-up between the Red Knights and Roseville, Benilde-St. Margaret’s fell to Edina in its lone game last week. The team seems to be splitting the goaltending duties evenly between sophomore Demetra Walsma and senior Allie Van Stelten, with Van Stelten turning in a 19-save performance on 21 shots against the Hornets.

1. Warroad (8-2-1)

The Warriors topped Crookston 9-1, thanks in part to a five-goal second period last week.

This weekend, forward Madi Lavergne committed to Wisconsin-River Falls for next season. She’ll find no shortage of fellow Minnesotans on the roster of the Division III national power Falcons.

2. Orono (10-1)

Considering the ferocity the Spartans had for their next two opponents, the first loss of the season against unranked Class 2A program North Wright County stings just a little less.

The Spartans thumped Waconia 13-0 and gutted out a 3-2 overtime win over Class 2A Eden Prairie after losing the Riverhawks. Senior forward Iyla Ryskamp is the program’s new official leader in points after netting the game-winner against Eden Prairie.

3. Mound Westonka (7-2)

A routine 4-1 win over Wright County Conference rival Delano/Rockford brings the Whitehawks to seven wins as we inch closer to the holiday season.

A date with Class 2A Cretin-Derham Hall on Dec. 16 should prove to be a quality test for the Whitehawks.

4. Proctor/Hermantown (4-3-1)

Whew. It felt strange marking down the Mirage as sub-.500 this season until today, where its record rises after wins over Duluth and perennial Section 7-2A semifinalist Grand Rapids/Greenway.

The Mirage will undoubtedly be excited for this week’s battle with No. 10-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s on the road, and could move up the rankings with a convincing win over the Red Knights.

5. Fergus Falls (7-1)

You can’t ask anything from ranked teams other than to win the games in front of them.

The Otters picked up victories over Thief River Falls and Sartell/Sauk Rapids last week by a combined score of 12-3, giving them six consecutive wins. The Otters now head into a matchup with Brainerd/Little Falls this week.

Warroad's Madi Lavergne committed to Wisconsin-River Falls over the weekend.
