Dodge County at Warroad, Dec. 28 (7:00 PM)

Abby Chamernick, Warroad

Warroad took a few trips into the metro area early in the season, and now the Warriors are sitting back and letting some metro and southern Minnesota clubs make the trip up near the Canadian border.

Dodge County is led at forward by a pair of freshmen in Molly Koch (6-6-12) and Nora Carstensen (3-9-12), as well as seniors Natalie Ahern (5-7-12), Lyndi Schubert (4-7-11), and Halle Determan (4-5-9), give the Wildcats balanced scoring from its top two lines. On defense, senior McKenzie Rich (7-6-13) logs a lot of minutes, and her ability to put shots on goal from the perimeter is a big reason the Wildcats' power play is connecting at a 25.7% rate. Dodge County head coach Jeremy Gunderson will most likely give freshman Ida Huber (.921 save percentage) the start against Warroad.

The #1 ranked Warriors (Class A) are coming off a 12-0 rout of Thief River Falls and hope to build momentum as part of their holiday tournament. Warroad's attack is led at forward by a trio of juniors in Franklin Pierce commit Talya Hendrickson (18-23-41), Kate Johnson (18-20-38), and playmaker Abby Ruele (5-16-21), which is one of the most dangerous lines in the state.

On defense, juniors Abby Chamernick (7-13-20) and Lila Lanctot (9-9-18) give the Warriors plenty of extra offensive punch. The Warrior power play is rolling along at 32.6%, so the Wildcats would be wise to avoid taking too many penalties. Warroad head coach David Marvin has leaned a lot on senior Kendra Nordick (1.41 goals-against-average), but he might give 8th-grader Jordyn Werk (two shutouts in two starts) an opportunity as well.
