St. Paul Johnson at St. Paul Highland Park, Jan. 4 (7:00 PM)

Damian Vandancker, shown here making a save as a Peewee as a member of the Johnson/Como/North St. Paul youth co-op in 2017, is the defensive backbone for St. Paul Johnson.

It is an all public school 'battle of St. Paul,' as these two independent clubs battle it out for bragging rights, and this is the first of two meetings between these teams as they play this game at Tria Rink. The Governors are coming off a 3-1 loss to South St. Paul at the Kaposia Classic over the holidays.

St. Paul Johnson is led up front by senior Hayden Pelletier (4 goals, 1 assist, 5 points), freshman Isaiah Henderson (2-3-5), and sophomore Matthew Corniea (2-0-2). The trio does what it can to give the Governors enough scoring to have a chance to win. On defense, senior Michael Kasper (0-4-4) and Aidan Van Patten (0-2-2) will try to disrupt the Scots' attack. Governors' head coach Moose Younghans has used senior goaltender Damian VanDanacker (.900 save percentage) this season.

The Scots are coming off a 3-2 victory over Rochester John Marshall. St. Paul Highland Park is led up front by senior Javier Hamlin (4-7-11), plus juniors Thomas Bradford (2-3-5) and Charlie Eischens (4-0-4). Among defenders, senior Max Cornell (1-4-5) and sophomore Benny Waud (3-2-5) try to contribute at both ends of the ice.

Scots head coach Brandon Ferraro has utilized junior goaltender Ben Olson (.910 save percentage) most this season, but he could also give a chance to senior Graham Zuehlke (1.47 goals-against-average).
