Warroad at Roseau, Jan. 11 (7:30 PM)

Kendra Nordick, Warroad

This is your classic northwest Minnesota showdown between No. 1-1 A Warroad and a solid Class 2A Roseau squad. This is the first meeting of the season between these arch-rivals.

The Warriors are coming off a 5-1 win over Bemidji. Warroad's high-powered attack is led by one of the state's most potent duos in senior Kate Johnson (24 goals, 24 assists, 48 points) and junior Franklin Pierce commit Talya Hendrickson (21-30-51).

As good as they are, the Warriors still have a fair amount of scoring depth through its top three lines, as well as some offensive skill on defense led by junior Lila Lanctot (10-10-20). With so many weapons, it's no surprise the Warriors' power-play scores at a 33.9% rate.

Warroad also has great goaltending, and senior Kendra Nordick (1.43 goals-against-average) is one of the best in the state.

Roseau is coming off a 6-2 win over Crookston. The Rams may not have the eye-popping statistics of Warroad, but they certainly have excellent skill throughout their lineup. At forward, senior and Franklin Pierce commit Memphis Mertens (17-5-22), and freshman Payton Remick (7-10-17) lead the way offensively for Roseau.

On defense, freshmen Summer Byfuglien (3-6-9) and Kylie Bjerk (1-4-5) will be busy trying to slow down Warroad's attack. Between the pipes, sophomore goaltender Jada Pelowski (.911 save percentage) will certainly be tested in this one.
