Orono at Holy Angels, Jan. 20 (7:00 PM)

Alex Paulsen, Orono

This is a significant rematch between Section 5-1A rivals Holy Angels and No. 3-1A Orono. The Spartans are building on the momentum of a victory against Chaska/Chanhassen, where they rallied back after a 1-0 deficit to win 3-1.

Orono is led at forward by the 1-2 punch of seniors, Sacred Heart commit Iyla Ryskamp (26 goals, 26 assists, 52 points) and Wisconsin-River Falls commit Kailey Niccum (16-15-31). The Spartans have balanced scoring throughout their top three lines, and have been wearing opponents down all season.

On defense, freshman Alex Paulsen (2-19-21) and sophomore Allie Pleimann (2-16-18) keep it simple, but have shown poise beyond their years for the Spartans this season.

In the crease, junior goaltender Celia Dahl (.932 save percentage) has been Orono's ace most of the year. She gave up just one goal the first time these two teams played against one another and will hope to repeat that performance this time around.

The No. 5-1A Stars are coming off a heartbreaking loss to a very good Class 2A Benilde-St. Margaret's where they squandered a 2-0 lead to give up three goals in the third to lose 3-2. Holy Angels lost to Orono 3-1 at the start of December. Can the Stars prevail this time around?

Holy Angels is led at forward by senior Ella Clow (11-24-35) and sophomores Bella LaMere (14-18-32) and Audrey Garton (17-15-32).

On defense, freshmen Berit Loichle (6-13-19) and Harper Poehling (4-15-19) do a great job supporting the Stars offense and keeping opponents from reaching the high-danger areas of the ice.

In the crease, senior goaltender Celeste Rimstad (1.57 goals-against-average) will have to play well to give Holy Angels a chance against a potent Orono squad.
