Edina vs. Andover, Jan. 22 (9:30 AM)

Jane Kuehl, Edina

Former pro wrestling superstar Ric Flair once said, "If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best!"

The Nature Boy's signature proclamation fits perfectly for the Class AA championship rematch from a season ago. It's No. 1 versus No. 2, as top-ranked Andover faces second-ranked Edina at the outdoor rink at Mankato's Blakeslee Field as part of Hockey Day Minnesota.

The Hornets are coming off a dramatic 2-1 victory over arch-rival Minnetonka. Edina is led at forward by two seniors, Ohio State commit Berit Lindborg (9-16-25), and Princeton commit Jane Kuehl (12-7-19). Sophomore Hannah Halverson (15-12-27) and junior Ellie Chapman (9-10-19) are also viable scoring options for the Hornets.

On defense, senior Wisconsin commit Vivian Jungels (11-21-32) is one of the best two-way defenders in the state. Edina is especially stingy on the penalty kill, with a 95.9% success rate.

In the crease, junior goaltender and Princeton commit Uma Corniea (.977 save percentage) has been rock solid all season for the Hornets.

Andover is coming off a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Hill-Murray. The Huskies are led at forward by juniors, a pair of St. Thomas-commits in Ella Boeger (18-20-38) and Madison Brown(10-19-29), as well as Isa Goettl (15-14-29).

On defense, freshmen Courtney Little (4-9-13) and Mackenzie Jones (2-8-10), as well as sophomore Cailin Mumm (3-9-12), will be tested against a potent Edina attack.

Between the pipes, junior goaltender Courtney Stagman (1.26 goals-against-average) has been the workhorse for the Huskies this season.
